Toy Story 5 Trailer Pits Woody and Buzz Versus a Tablet Computer
Exactly 30 years since the first Toy Story movie was released, launching the animation giant as a leading film company and bringing viewers to iconic characters like the cowboy doll (the actor) and the space ranger (Tim Allen), who are now famous worldwide.
In 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 appeared this week, offering a brief look into the plot but keeping viewers curious how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.
Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Frightens the Toys
In the teaser reveals Bonnie — who inherited the toy collection when he grew up — receiving a brand new plaything, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. Bonnie acquires her first tablet computer, and she is excited about it.
Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the toys appear to consider it as a danger coming to replace them, which it likely will.
Woody's Return: Mysteries from Toy Story 4
One thing the trailer doesn't touch on is what the sheriff is returned with his friends in the child's bedroom. The end of Toy Story 4 saw him embark on a fresh journey with the shepherdess (the actress), traveling with a carnival and helping prize toys locate loving owners.
Surely, Pixar will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Seeing him appear in the familiar setting without warning is somewhat puzzling, however. It also makes us wonder whether his partner will have come back with him. And what about Duke Caboom (Keanu Reeves)?
Connections from the Previous Film
Fortunately, some aspects are carrying over from the earlier movie. The final act the cowboy did before setting off for his fresh path was pass his sheriff badge to Jessie (the voice actor), leaving her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. In the teaser displays the badge attached to her shirt.
Hopefully she is remains the driving force among the toys.
Toy Story 5 debuts on June 19, 2026.
